6106 aluminum rod is a heat-treatable Al-Mg-Si alloy bridging decorative extrusion alloys and medium-strength structural materials. Its optimized composition combines excellent extrusion formability, premium surface finish, reliable corrosion resistance, and balanced mechanical properties—ideal for applications needing both aesthetics and structural stability. Unlike 6063 (decorative-focused) and 6082 (high-strength-focused), it is a versatile solution for precision and decorative structural needs.
6106’s core advantage is exceptional extrusion performance, thanks to its calibrated composition (0.30-0.60% silicon, 0.40-0.80% magnesium, 0.05-0.20% manganese). It has excellent hot-fluidity, enabling complex, thin-walled, sharp-edged profiles with tight tolerances—more efficiently than 6061. It requires lower extrusion pressure, reduces mold wear, and maintains high yield rates, suitable for mass production of precision extruded parts with strict shape demands.
6106 delivers an ultra-smooth surface (Ra ≤ 0.8μm) after extrusion, with minimal impurities and uniform texture. It has outstanding anodizing performance, forming a dense, uniform oxide film with consistent color—no streaks or color differences. This makes it perfect for visible decorative parts, supporting various coloring treatments and retaining good gloss and scratch resistance, comparable to 6063 but with higher strength.
As a heat-treatable alloy, 6106 performs stably in T4 and T6 tempers, with mechanical properties between 6060 and 6005A. In T6 temper, its tensile strength is 205-235MPa (thickness-dependent), yield strength ≥170-210MPa, and elongation 8-14%. It maintains good ductility and toughness, avoiding cracking during cold working and welding, with a 2.70g/cm³ density ensuring lightweight structural parts.
